Who is Eligible for Railway Assistant Loco Pilot Post?

To be eligible for appointment as Assistant Loco Pilot post in Indian Railways across zones, candidates should satisfy the following criteria:

• Nationality: Must be a citizen of India
• Age Limit: 18-30 years (age relaxation provided to reserved category candidates such as 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC candidates. Complete details about age relaxation is given in the Notification PDF).
• Qualification: Passed Matriculation with ITI Diploma in relevant field

Candidates can apply for 9,970 Assistant Loco Pilot Railway vacancy on any of the regional official website of the RRB. The application process is currently active and the deadline it 11th May 2025 (11:59 PM). Also, to complete the online application process, candidates have to pay an application fee which is given below:

Railway RRB ALP Exam Pattern 2025 for CBT 1 and CBT 2

The ALP CBT 1 Exam is 75 marks carrying 75 questions and CBT 2 consists of two papers of 100 and 75 marks. Passing marks in both exam stages are: UR & EWS – 40%, OBC (NCL) – 30%, SC – 30%, ST – 25%. Check the details in the table below.

Negative Marking in RRB CBT Exam

In both stage 1 and 2 Computer Based Test For RRB ALP, there is a negative marking of 1/3rd mark for wrong answers marked by the candidates. No negative marking for unanswered questions.

Salary of Railway Assistant Loco Pilot

The basic salary of an Asst. Loco Pilot is Rs. 19,900/- per month as per Pay Level 2 in 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC). After adding allowances such as DA, HRA, NPS, etc. the monthly salary becomes around Rs. 35,000/- per month.
