RRB ALP 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who fulfil the following eligibility conditions can apply for RRB ALP 2026:

Railway ALP Age Limit

The minimum age is 18 years, and the maximum age is 30 years as on 1st July 2026. Age relaxation is provided as per government norms:

• SC/ST: 5 years
• OBC (NCL): 3 years
• Ex-Servicemen: Service period + 3 years

RRB ALP Qualification

Must have one of the following:

• 10th Pass from a recognized board with ITI certificate in a relevant trade (e.g., Electrician, Fitter, Mechanic, Welder, etc.)
• OR a 3-year Diploma/Degree in Engineering

How many attempts are allowed for RRB ALP exam?
There is no limit on the number of attempts a candidate can have in this exam. However, candidates must be within the required age limit to be eligible.

RRB ALP Medical Standards (A 1)

The railway is very strict in medical terms. If a candidate is not physically fit, the railway immediately rejects them. RRB ALP 2026 Selection Process

There are 5 stages in the Assistant Loco Pilot Selection Process:

Stage 1: CBT 1 (Preliminary test. Qualifying in nature. Minimum pass: 40% (UR), 30% (OBC/SC), 25% (ST).

Stage 2: CBT 2 (Main exam with two parts, tests trade-specific engineering subject knowledge and this stage contributes 50% in final list.)

Stage 3: CBAT (Psycho Test) – 5 test batteries covering Memory, Direction Following, Depth Perception, Concentration, and Perceptual Speed. Minimum 42 marks required.

Stage 4: Document Verification (Checking of original certificates)

Stage 5: Medical Examination (Strict A-1 medical standard including 6/6 vision without glasses is mandatory)

RRB ALP 2026 Exam Pattern (Latest)

The General Awareness Section from CBT 1 has been removed by RRB, and now there are only 3 sections: Maths, Mental Ability, and General Science. However, the number of questions, total marks, and duration remain the same.

RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam Pattern

In the RRB ALP CBT 2, there are two sections (A and B). Only those who qualify in Part A, will be considered for CBAT. Also, 50% weightage has been allotted to Part A marks for final merit list.

Is there a negative marking in the RRB ALP Exam?

Yes, there is a negative marking of 1/3rd or 0.33 mark in both CBT 1 and CBT 2 of the RRB ALP Examination.

RRB ALP 2026 Computer Based Aptitude Test

CBAT is a psychological aptitude test designed to assess a candidate’s mental alertness, decision-making ability, concentration, and reaction time

Is the RRB ALP Exam Tough?

The ALP exam is considered moderate overall, but due to increasing competition each year and variable number of vacancies, the difficulty level may go high this year. However, if candidates who remain loyal to their preparation and put in consistent effort, then you can surely crack this exam.

Railway RRB ALP Salary & Pay Scale

The basic salary starts from Rs. 19,900 under Pay Level 2 of the 7th Pay Commission. After adding allowances and perks, the monthly salary ranges from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 35,000, depending on city location and deductions. Along with a handsome salary, ALPs get free railway passes, medical, pension & more.

RRB ALP Exam City Preference

RRB will conduct the CBTs for ALP at the following exam cities. It is important for the candidates to choose their centre accordingly while applying for the post. Later on, the Board will release city intimation slip, which mentions the allotted exam city for a particular stage.

How long is the RRB ALP Recruitment process?

The ALP recruitment is a year-long process starting from the release of the official notification to release of the final result.

In between, candidates have to go through multiple stages of scrutiny, i.e., CBT 1, CBT 2, CBAT, DV, and ME.

The final merit list will be prepared based on the marks of CBT 2 Part A and CBAT in the ratio 50:50.
