The State Bank of India (SBI) has commenced its Apprenticeship Recruitment process according to ‘Engagement of Apprentices 2026-27 under the Apprenticeship Act 1961’. A total of 7150 vacancies will be filled across 34 States and Union Territories.
The official SBI Apprentice 2026 Notification (CRPD/APPR/2026-27/07) was released on 19th May 2026, along with the beginning of the online applications process on the SBI website at www.sbi.bank.in/web/careers/current-openings.
Candidates who are within the age limit of 20 to 28 years and possess Bachelor’s degree can register. The apprenticeship period with SBI will be for 1 year. Check out further details below.

What does Bank Apprenticeship mean?
A bank apprenticeship is a fixed-term training program run by banks where selected candidates work in real bank branches to learn practical banking work while receiving a monthly stipend. It allows Banks like SBI to train fresh graduates through on-the-job learning instead of hiring them as permanent employees.
It is like an advanced, government-recognised internship under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Candidates get real banking experience and it helps in understanding of banking terms and work culture.
Currently, SBI Apprentice 2026 is trending as the Bank has announced a massive recruitment drive for 7,150 vacancies across India. This is a golden opportunity to work with SBI and to gain banking experience.

SBI Apprentice 2026 Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria is decided based on 3 factors: age, qualification, and nationality. Before applying, candidates must check the requirements carefully.
Age Limit (As on 1/4/2026)
Candidate’s age must be between 20 to 28 years as on 1st April 2026.
Relaxation in the upper age limit is applicable as per the Government of India guidelines for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates.

- OBC (NCL): 3 years
- PwD (General): 10 years
- PwD (ST/SC): 13 years
- PwD (OBC): 15 years
Educational Qualification
The candidate must have completed graduation from a recognised University/ Institute.
SBI Apprentice 2026 Local Language Test
The Local language Proficiency is part of both the eligibility and selection process. Candidates must be proficient in the language of the region they are applying from.
Those who qualify the online exam will be called for Local Language Test and it is a qualifying stage in the SBI Apprentice recruitment. It is designed to assess a candidate’s proficiency in the local/official language of the State or Union Territory applied for. Only candidates who meet the minimum language proficiency standards will be considered further.

SBI Apprentice 2026 Selection Process
Selection for engagement of SBI Apprentice will be done on the basis of two stages as follows-

SBI Apprentice 2026 Exam Pattern
SBI will conduct only one online exam to make a selection of suitable candidates for the SBI Apprentice. SBI Apprentice Exam Pattern and details are provided below.
- All questions will be Objective Type (MCQs)
- Questions will be bilingual: English and Hindi
- Negative marking: 1/4th mark deducted for each wrong answer
- No penalty for unanswered questions
- The question paper is divided into 4 sections of 25 questions each (25 marks per section)
- 15 minutes per section; total exam duration 1 hour

Candidates who qualify for the online exam will have to appear for the Local Language Test, however, the candidates who have studied the local language at class 10 or 12th level will be exempted from the Local Language Test.
SBI Apprentice 2026 Salary
The candidates who get selected for the SBI Apprentice with a stipend of Rs.15000/- per month. The apprentices are not eligible for any other allowances/ benefits.
1 Year Apprenticeship at SBI
Selection of candidates will be made for a period of one year for the post of SBI Apprentice in 2026. The bank is not obligated to offer full-time employment to the Apprentices after the expiry of the Apprenticeship period. After completion of three years from the date of appointment, apprentices will be relieved from their posts.
