CUET Should Remain Optional, Says AIU Secretary General
According to Media reports, the Common University Entrance Exam (CUET) exam for undergraduate admissions should continue to be an optional requirement for colleges and universities across the nation, according to the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

While Addressing a press conference on Wednesday the Secretary General of the Association of Indian Universities Pankaj Mittal stated that it would prefer that colleges and universities across the nation continue to offer the Common University Entrance Exam (CUET) as an option for admission to undergraduate programs. She said CUET has not yet been declared required and that the AIU believes it should remain optional so for institutions or colleges that want to adopt the new system.

Only 90 universities had been accepted for the CUET 2022 Test. CUET 2023 is an elective course for universities. Notwithstanding the fact that the UGC mandates that all institutions conduct admissions through these entrance tests, colleges are given the option. According to AIU, this choice should be preserved for all private, public, and state colleges.

“In our opinion, it is a good system. This was implemented to reduce the stress on students, who would henceforth take only one exam, the CUET. “But, I have heard that the Government of India has stated that it is optional for a university,” Mittal also added.
Despite a big number of colleges and universities nationwide opting for the CUET, Mittal acknowledged the opposition to the new system for pursuing degree programs in the Northeast.

The National Testing Agency administers the Common University Entrance Exam, also known as CUET 2023. In March of last year, the University Grants Commission (UGC) stated that undergraduate admissions in all central universities will be made using a common entrance test rather than on the basis of class 12 grades. CUET is a national level Entrance Test for admission to various central and state universities and colleges around the country for undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programmes.

According to Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), CUET registration 2023 reached 9,81,406 last year, with a total of 7,39,027 applications submitted.
CUET UG Registration is now underway. The CUET 2023 Exam is going to take place on 21st May. According to the latest updates, the CUET university list would include 200+ universities (including 46 central universities). Over 15 lakh students applied for various UG courses at 90 CUET member universities last year.

According to AIU Secretary General Mittal, CUET has not yet been made mandatory and should continue to remain so for institutions or colleges that wish to implement the new system.
The AIU Secretary-General noted that the Common University Entrance Examination is an excellent system and was created to relieve the difficulties faced by students who would now take a single exam, but she heard that the Government of India recently declared it to be optional for colleges or universities.
The CUET test has been chosen so far by 206 universities and colleges, including 44 central and 33 state universities. The reports went on to say that the UGC announced that CUET would be used to determine undergraduate admissions rather than Class 12th scores for all central universities.

According to recent updates, the National Testing Agency has extended the deadline for filling out the CUET registration form, which is why the CUET UG 2023 Registration is currently underway. Candidates who intend to take the CUET UG 2023 Exam must complete their online registration by March 30. The CUET UG test 2023 is scheduled to be administered from May 21 to May 31, 2023, per the official NTA timetable.
