Trigonometry Notes

Physics’ main focus is the unraveling of the truth about the universe. We learn to apply both basic and advanced scientific ideas to explain the numerous phenomena that occur in our environment by using mathematical tools. These mathematical tools are used to describe concepts, laws, theories, and principles, as well as their implications. It is crucial that students preparing for the NEET exam master certain mathematical tools because of this. Acquiring knowledge of trigonometry is a crucial step in enhancing students’ mathematical abilities, which will aid them in resolving several intricate difficulties related to the examination. To help students in their journey, our expert faculty at Adda 247 have explained all the important concept of Trigonometry through a video. The detailed PDF notes have also been given for download so that students can revise it whenever they want. The video and PDF will prove to be very useful in solving many complex problems of Physics in the NEET exam. Trigonometry

The study of the relationship between a right-angled triangle’s side-to-angle ratios and its angles is known as trigonometry. One of the most significant areas of mathematics is trigonometry. The terms “trigonon” and “metron,” which denote measure and triangle, respectively, are combined to produce the word trigonometry. It is the study of how a right-angled triangle’s sides and angles relate to one another. Thus, by applying formulas and identities based on this relationship, it aids in determining the measure of unknown dimensions of a right-angled triangle.

Trigonometry Ratios

Trigonometric Ratios, also known as Trigonometric Functions are specific ratios that help establish relation between different sides of a right angled triangle. Three crucial trigonometric functions sine, cosine, and tangent are represented by the acronyms sin, cos, and tan respectively. Apart from these three ratios, there are 03 more trigonometric ratios namely cosecant, secant, and cotangent. So, in total, there are 6 trigonometric ratios. Their meaning in terms of a right-angled triangle’s side is given below.

Trigonometric Functions/Ratios Abbreviation Relationship to sides of a right triangle
Sine Function sin Opposite side/Hypotenuse
Tangent Function tan Opposite side/Adjacent side
Cosine Function cos Adjacent side/Hypotenuse
Cosecant Function cosec Hypotenuse/Opposite side
Secant Function sec Hypotenuse/Adjacent side
Cotangent Function cot Adjacent side/Opposite side

Trigonometry Table

The trigonometry table is a table consisting of all the values for different standard angles for different trigonometric ratios. These trigonometric functions are usually listed for a variety of frequently used angles, usually in degrees or radians, in a trigonometry table. Since the angles are frequently expressed in steps of a few degrees or radians, it is easy to find the relevant values of the trigonometric functions quickly and easily without needing to do any calculations by hand. The detailed trigonometry table is given below.

Trigonometry Table
Angles (In Degrees) 30° 45° 60° 90° 180° 270° 360°
Angles (In Radians) π/6 π/4 π/3 π/2 π 3π/2
sin 0 1/2 1/√2 √3/2 1 0 -1 0
cos 1 √3/2 1/√2 1/2 0 -1 0 1
tan 0 1/√3 1 √3 0 0
cot √3 1 1/√3 0 0
cosec 2 √2 2/√3 1 -1
sec 1 2/√3 √2 2 -1 1

Trigonometry Notes Formulas

The equations that hold true for right-angled triangles are known as trigonometric formulas or identities. Below are a few unique trigonometric formulas.

Even and Odd Angle Formulas
sin(-θ) = -sinθ
cos(-θ) = cosθ
tan(-θ) = -tanθ
Co-function Formulas
sin(90°-θ) = cosθ
cos(90°-θ) = sinθ
tan(90°-θ) = cotθ
Double Angle Formulas
sin2θ = 2 sinθ cosθ
cos2θ = 1 – 2sin²θ
tan2θ = 2tanθ / 1- tan²θ
Thrice of Angle Formulas
sin2θ = 2 sinθ cosθ
cos2θ = 1 – 2sin²θ
tan2θ = 2tanθ / 1- tan²θ
sin3θ = 3sinθ – 4 sin³θ
Cos 3θ = 4cos³θ – 3 cosθ
Tan 3θ = 3tanθ – tan³θ / 1-3tan²θ
Trigonometric Sum and Difference Formulas
Sin (A+B) = Sin A Cos B + Cos A Sin B
Sin (A-B) = Sin A Cos B – Cos A Sin B
Cos (A+B) = Cos A Cos B – Sin A Sin B
Cos (A-B) = Cos A Cos B + Sin A Sin B
Tan (A+B) = Tan A + Tan B / 1 – Tan A Tan B
Tan (A-B) = Tan A – Tan B / 1 + Tan A Tan B

Trigonometry Notes Class 10

The majority of Indian school boards begin teaching trigonometry to their students in class 10. Realizing this fact haunts students who have just started their class 10th, we have covered important notes for class 10th trigonometry syllabus. When students study trigonometry for the first time, they find it difficult. This is because they are unfamiliar with the notion of trigonometry. The trigonometry table is intended for standard angles of 0, 30, 45, 60, and 90 degrees for this reason. The values of Sin and Cos for the aforementioned standard angles are shown in this trigonometry table. This trigonometry table can be quickly memorized, which will help one do well on exams and provide a solid foundation for further study. Below is a tabular version of the class 10 trigonometry table.

Trigonometry Table Class 10
Angles  30° 45° 60° 90°
sin 0 1/2 1/√2 √3/2 1
cos 1 √3/2 1/√2 1/2 0

Apart from the angle values table, some important formulas present in the Trigonometry class 10 syllabus is given below.

sinΘ = perpendicular (p)/hypotenuse (h)

cosΘ = base (b)/hypotenuse (h)

tanΘ = perpendicular (p)/base (b)

cosecΘ = hypotenuse (h)/perpendicular (p)

secΘ = hypotenuse (h)/base (b)

cotΘ = base (b)/perpendicular (p)

sinθ = 1/cosecθ and vice versa

cosθ = 1/secθ and vice versa

tanθ = 1/cotθ and vice versa

tan θ = sinθ/cosθ

cot θ = cosθ/sinθ

sin²θ + cos²θ = 1

1 + tan²θ = sec²θ

1 + cot²θ = cosec²θ
