Unit-1: Matter-Its Nature and Behavior

This unit covers the basic definition of matter that is, solid, liquid and gases. The different states of matter, their characteristics and alteration into different states of matter are also discussed. The unit includes:

Read: Ncert Solutions class 11

Chapter 1: Matter in our Surroundings

Nature of matter: This includes Elements, compounds, and mixtures. Heterogeneous and homogenous mixtures, colloids, and suspensions. It further explains the characteristics of the particle of matter like they have space between them, they are moving with some kinetic energy, and they attract each other with a particular force. We all know that there are three states of matter – Solid, Liquid and Gas

Chapter 2: Is Matter Around Us Pure?

The chapter defines types of mixtures whether it is pure or impure? We have to learn here about how many types of solutions are there, how to prepare these solutions and how to find the concentration of a given solution.

Chapter 3: Atoms and Molecules

Mole concept: Relationship of mole to mass of the particles and numbers. During a chemical reaction, the sum of the masses of the reactants and products remains unchanged. Law of conservation of mass is defined in the chapter.

Chapter 4: Structure of atoms

This includes Electrons, protons, and neutrons, valency, the chemical formula of common compounds. Isotopes and Isobars. It also explains the various steps of the discovery of the structure of atoms and its subparts. Structure of Atom includes the atomic models of J. J. Thomson, Rutherford and Bohr.

Unit 2: Organisation In The Living World

The unit takes into account the living beings and the different topics related to the cell. The unit starts off with the cell as the basic unit of life and explains the different organisms and their properties.

Chapter 5: Fundamental Unit of Life

Cell – Basic Unit of life: The topic covers the cell as a basic unit of life; prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, multicellular organisms; cell membrane and cell wall, cell organelles, and cell inclusions; chloroplast, mitochondria, vacuoles, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus; nucleus, chromosomes – basic structure, number.

Chapter 6: Tissues

Tissues, Organs, Organ System, Organism: The topic covers the structure and functions of animal and plant tissues (only four types of tissues in animals; Meristematic and Permanent tissues in plants). Plant tissues include the explanation about Meristematic tissue – for the growth of plants and Permanent tissue – permanent in shape, size and function (simple and complex permanent tissues). Animal tissues cover the topics related to Epithelial tissue (also known as covering or protective tissue), Connective tissue, Muscular tissue and Nervous tissue.

Chapter 7: Diversity in Living Organisms

Biological Diversity: Diversity of plants and animals – basic issues in scientific naming, the basis of classification. Hierarchy of categories/groups, Major groups of plants (salient features) (Bacteria, Thallophyta, Bryophyta, Pteridophyta, Gymnosperms, and Angiosperms). Major groups of animals (salient features) (Nonchordates upto phyla and chordates upto classes).

Unit 3: Motion, Force, And Work

Chapter 8: Motion

Distance and displacement, velocity; uniform and non-uniform motion along a straight line; acceleration, distance-time and velocity-time graphs for uniform motion and uniformly accelerated motion, derivation of equations of motion by graphical method; elementary idea of uniform circular motion.

Chapter 9: Force and Laws of Motion

Force and Newton’s laws: Force and Motion, Newton’s Laws of Motion, Action and reaction forces, Inertia of a body, Inertia, and mass, Momentum, Force and Acceleration. Elementary idea of conservation of Momentum. The main motive to study Chapter 9 of Class 9 Science is to understand the laws of motion under the influence of force. Here, we will start from First law of motions and Inertia of body. Later on Second law of motion along with the law of conservation of momentum.

Chapter 10: Gravitation

Gravitation; Universal Law of Gravitation, Force of Gravitation of the earth (gravity), Acceleration due to Gravity; Mass and Weight; Freefall.

Floatation: Thrust and Pressure. Archimedes’ Principle; Buoyancy; Elementary Idea of Relative Density. The relation between Universal Gravitational Constant G and Gravitational Acceleration g is also important for terminal exams or class test. also states about the difference between Mass and Weight considering the values of g. We know that G is constant, but the value of gravity varies according to the varying radius of Earth. Value of g is maximum at poles and least at the equator due to the elliptical structure of Earth. Concepts of Buoyancy, Buoyant force, Pressure and Thrust, Archimedes’ principle of floatation and Relative Density are the topic for exam preparation.

Chapter 11: Work and Energy

Work, energy, and power: Work done by a Force, Energy, Power; Kinetic and potential energy; Law of conservation of energy. Work is connected to different from of Energy or from Energy we can do work. Questions based on constant force and uniform motions are given as intext questions. Mechanical Energy is basically divided into two kinds as Kinetic Energy and Potential Energy. Kinetic Energy of an object is due to its motion whereas Potential Energy is due to its current position. The sum of Potential and Kinetic Energy is considered as Mechanical Energy. The other forms of energies are Heat Energy, Chemical Energy, Electrical Energy and Light Energy.

Chapter 12: Sound

The chapter covers Nature of sound and its propagation in various media, speed of sound, range of hearing in humans; ultrasound; the reflection of sound; echo and SONAR. Structure of the Human Ear (Auditory aspect only).

Chapter 13: Why do we fall ill?

The chapter covers Health and Diseases: Health and its failure. Infectious and Non-infectious diseases, their causes, and manifestation. Diseases caused by microbes (Virus, Bacteria, and Protozoans) and their prevention; Principles of treatment and prevention. Pulse Polio programs.

Unit 4: Our Environment

The unit covers non-living components of the planet.

Chapter 14: Natural resources

Physical resources: Air, Water, Soil. Air for respiration, for combustion, for moderating temperatures, movements of air, and its role in bringing rains across India. Air, Water, and Soil pollution (brief introduction). Holes in the ozone layer and the probable damages.

Bio-geo chemical cycles in nature: Water, Oxygen, Carbon, and Nitrogen.

Unit 5: Food Production

Chapter 15: Improvement in Food resources

The unit covers plant and animal breeding and selection for quality improvement and management; Use of fertilizers and manures; Protection from pests and diseases; Organic farming.

Adda 247 provides easy, understandable solutions of all the questions from class 6th to 12th in both English as well as Hindi. Hindi is also kept into account as it is the medium of study in some schools. The solutions clear up the concepts of the students.
