RRB ALP Eligibility

Candidates who fulfil the following eligibility conditions can register for RRB ALP 2026:

Railway ALP Age Limit

The minimum age is 18 years, and the maximum age is 30 years as on 1st July 2026. Age relaxation is provided as per government norms:

  • SC/ST: 5 years
  • OBC (NCL): 3 years
  • Ex-Servicemen: Service period + 3 years

RRB ALP Qualification

Must have one of the following:

  • 10th Pass from a recognised board with ITI certificate in a relevant trade (e.g., Electrician, Fitter, Mechanic, Welder, etc.)
  • OR a 3-year Diploma/Degree in Engineering

Distant Vision: 6/6, 6/6 without glasses (with fogging test; +2D not accepted)

Other Tests: Must pass Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision, Night Vision, Mesopic Vision, etc.

Selection Process Stages

There are 5 stages in the Assistant Loco Pilot Selection Process:

Stage 1 CBT 1
Minimum qualifying marks: 40% for UR, 30% for OBC/SC, and 25% for ST candidates.
Stage 2 CBT 2
Tests trade-specific engineering subject knowledge and carries 50% weightage in the final merit list.
Stage 3 CBAT (Psycho Test)
Includes 5 test batteries covering Memory, Direction Following, Depth Perception, Concentration, and Perceptual Speed. Minimum 42 marks required to qualify.
Stage 4 Document Verification
Verification of original documents and certificates submitted by candidates.
Stage 5 Medical Examination
Candidates must meet strict A-1 medical standards, including 6/6 vision without glasses.

RRB ALP New Exam Pattern

The General Awareness Section from CBT 1 has been removed by RRB, and now there are only 3 sections: Maths, Mental Ability, and General Science. However, the number of questions, total marks, and duration remain the same.

CBAT is a psychological aptitude test designed to assess a candidate’s mental alertness, decision-making ability, concentration, and reaction time

  • No negative marking
  • Candidates must clear each test battery separately

  • Failing in even one battery leads to disqualification

Railway RRB ALP Salary & Pay Scale

The basic salary of an ALP starts from Rs. 19,900 under Pay Level 2 of the 7th Pay Commission. After adding allowances and perks, the monthly salary ranges from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 35,000, depending on city location and deductions. Along with a handsome salary, ALPs get free railway passes, medical, pension & more.

RRB ALP Exam Centre List

RRB will conduct the CBTs for ALP at the following exam cities. It is important for the candidates to choose their centre accordingly while applying for the post. Later on, the Board will release the city intimation slip, which mentions the allotted exam city for a particular stage.
