BTEUP
The Board of Technical Education, Uttar Pradesh (BTEUP), established in May 1958, is a significant body that provides technical education to students in Uttar Pradesh, India. Originally named the ‘State Board of Technical Education and Training,’ it was renamed to ‘Board of Technical Education’ in 1962. In the same year, the “U.P. Pravidhic Shiksha Adhiniyam – 1962” was enacted, giving the board statutory status.
BTEUP conducted its first examination in 1960, covering diploma courses and the Draughtsman Certificate Course. In its inaugural year, the Board held exams for about 2,500 students in three major disciplines: Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, across 25 different Centers/Institutions.
The BTEUP Board’s structure includes a chairman, vice-chairman, and 40 members appointed by the state government. The Secretary of the Board of Technical Education, U.P., serves as the ex-officio member secretary of the Board. Initially, the curriculum adopted by the BTEUP Board was prepared by other institutions, but since 1980, the Board has developed and revised its curriculum and syllabi every five years through its Curriculum Development Centre. This work is now entrusted to I.R.D.T. Kanpur.
Today, BTEUP examines about 250,000 students in over 60 different disciplines of one-year, two-year, three-year, and four-year durations in affiliated institutions. The BTEUP courses offered span a wide range, including computer science, IT, mechanical, electrical, electronics, automobile, civil engineering, and more, across various levels of diplomas and certifications.
The functions of BTEUP include declaring exam schedules, organizing semester exams, declaring results, affiliating institutions, and prescribing their standards of building and equipment. As of January 2019, there were over 800 institutes affiliated with BTEUP, many of which are government polytechnics.
