SSC CGL Notification 2026 Out for 12256 Group B and C Posts, Apply Online Dates (21 May to 22 June)

The Staff Selection Commission has announced 12,256 vacancies for Group B and C posts in Central Government Departments. This year, the vacancies also include ‘Assistant Audit Officer’ and ‘Assistant Accounts Officer’ or AAO post, which has the highest pay level amongst all other posts.

The official SSC CGL Notification 2026 was released on 21st May 2026 on the official website at www.ssc.gov.in, and the Commission has introduced sectional timing in both Tier 1 and Tier 2. This is the first time in CGL Exam history that there will be fixed sectional timing, and candidates cannot jump from one section to another without submitting it. Check more details below.

SSC CGL Notification 2026 Out

The official notification and online application process for SSC CGL 2026 started on 21st May 2026 and the last date to apply is 22nd June 2026 (11 PM). Candidates who have passed a Bachelor’s degree can now apply through the Candidate’s Dashboard on SSC website.

What’s New in SSC CGL in 2026?

The two major changes made by SSC that has attracted a wide spread attention are: re-introduction of AAO post after few years and introduction of sectional timing, other than that selection process, salary, and exam pattern remains the same.

New Changes Introduced by SSC for CGL 2026 Exam:

• AAO Posts Added: SSC has included the posts of Assistant Audit Officer (AAO) and Assistant Accounts Officer (AAO) under the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG), carrying Pay Level 8 salary.
• Sectional Timing in Tier 1: The Tier 1 exam now consists of four sections, with 15 minutes allotted to each section, making the total duration 60 minutes.
• Sectional Timing in Tier 2: Separate time limits have been introduced for Section I and Section II of Paper I in the Tier 2 examination.
• Paper III Introduced for AAO Posts: Due to the inclusion of AAO posts, SSC has added Paper III (General Studies- Finance & Economics) in Tier 2 for candidates applying for these posts.
• New streams have been introduced for the Statistical Investigator post in AI, Data Science, IT, Computer Science and related streams.

SSC CGL Vacancy 2026

The Commission has released 12,256 vacancies for AAO, ASO, JSO, SI, Examiner, Sub Inspector, Divisional Accountant, Auditor, etc. posts. All fall under Group B and C categories and selected candidates will be posted in Central Ministries and Departments.

Age Limit

For SSC CGL 2026, candidates must be in the age group of 18 to 32 years (depending on the post) as of 1/8/2026.

Qualification

The minimum qualification for most SSC CGL posts is a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or equivalent. However, some posts have specific educational requirements like Mathematics in Class 12, Bachelor’s degree with Statistics, or CA, CMA, MBA (Finance), etc. Check official notification full details.
