The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has released the RRB ALP 2026 Notification (CEN 01/2026) on 14th May at the official website https:/www.rrbcdg.gov.in/. Through this notification, RRB will recruit a total of 11127 Assistant Loco Pilot Vacancies.

Candidates with a 10th pass certificate or diploma/degree in Engineering can apply from 15th May to 14th June 2026 on the official website at www.rrbapply.gov.in. The job of a Railway ALP is to monitor train controls, signals, and equipment to ensure smooth and safe train operations.

Railway Loco Pilot Vacancy Details

RRB ALP 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who fulfil the following eligibility conditions can apply for RRB ALP 2026:

Railway ALP Age Limit

The minimum age is 18 years, and the maximum age is 30 years as on 1st July 2026. Age relaxation is provided as per government norms:

• SC/ST: 5 years
• OBC (NCL): 3 years
• Ex-Servicemen: Service period + 3 years

RRB ALP Qualification

Must have one of the following:

• 10th Pass from a recognized board with ITI certificate in a relevant trade (e.g., Electrician, Fitter, Mechanic, Welder, etc.)
• OR a 3-year Diploma/Degree in Engineering

How many attempts are allowed for RRB ALP exam?
There is no limit on the number of attempts a candidate can have in this exam. However, candidates must be within the required age limit to be eligible.

The railway is very strict in medical terms. If a candidate is not physically fit, the railway immediately rejects them. Candidates can register on the RRB website at www.rrbapply.gov.in. The online application process can be completed by filling out personal details (qualification, caste, age, parents’ names, email ID, phone number, etc.) and uploading documents (live photo, passport-size photo, signature, etc.). Also, pay the application fee at the end to complete the process.

RRB ALP Revised CBT 1 Exam Pattern

The General Awareness Section from CBT 1 been removed by RRB and now there are only 3 sections: Maths, Mental Ability, and General Science. However, the number of questions, total marks, and duration remains the same.

RRB ALP CBT 2 Exam Pattern

Is there a negative marking in the RRB ALP Exam?

Yes, there is a negative marking of 1/3rd or 0.33 mark in both CBT 1 and CBT 2 of the RRB ALP Examination.

How is the Final Merit List prepared?

RRB prepares the final merit list based on the marks obtained in Part 2 of CBT 2 and CBAT. The mark’s weightage of CBT 2 and CBAT has been revised to 50:50. The CBT 1 is only qualifying in nature, so its marks will not be considered for final list.

The final merit list is also subjected to successful completion of Document verification and candidates must have A1 medical standards in order to qualify.

How long is the RRB ALP Recruitment process?

The ALP recruitment is a year-long process starting from the release of the official notification till release of the final result.

In between these two stages, candidates have to go through multiple stages of scrutiny, i.e., CBT 1, CBT 2, CBAT, DV, and ME.

The final selection list will be prepared based on the marks of CBT 2 Part A and CBAT in the ratio 50:50.
