Sequencing

In sequencing, our aim is to find the order in which different job are to be processed on different machine so that the idle time is minimized and utilization is optimized.

Assumptions

• There is one job on one machine at a time
• If a job is started on any machine, it must be completed
• The time taken by the job from machine one to another is negligible.
• Irrespective of order, the processing time for the job remains constant.

Important terms related to sequencing

Job flow time

It is the time from starting time until that particular job is completed

Make span time

It is the time from when processing begins on the first job in set until the last job is completed

Tardiness or Lateness

It is the amount of time by which a job is delayed beyond its sue date.
