If you have passed Class 12 and now you are dreaming to study in an IIM, then this is actually a very good time to start your IPMAT 2027 preparation. Many students make one common mistake. They wait for board results, college admission or the right time to begin. But because of this delay, they lose many useful months.
IPMAT is not a paper where only Class 12 school knowledge will help. This exam checks your Quantitative Ability, Verbal Ability, and in some cases Logical Reasoning also. So if you start IPMAT 2027 Preparation early after Class 12, you get enough time to understand concepts, do practice, give mock tests, and improve your weak areas without too much pressure.
What is IPMAT?
IPMAT means Integrated Programme in Management Aptitude Test. It is an entrance exam conducted by IIMs for admission into their 5-year Integrated Programme in Management, also called IPM. Students from Science, Commerce, and Arts can apply after Class 12 if they match the eligibility rules.

Why Should CBSE Students Start Preparing After Class 12?
The time after board exams is actually one of the best phases to begin IPMAT preparation. School pressure becomes less. You get more free time. Your mind is also more relaxed compared to exam season.
This time helps because you can learn aptitude topics slowly and properly. You also get enough time for revision and mock test practice. Students who start early mostly do better because they are not studying in last-minute panic.

Complete IPMAT 2027 Preparation Plan After Class 12
Phase 1 (July to September 2026) – Build Your Basics
The first phase of your IPMAT 2027 Preparation, your full focus should be on basic concepts. Do not run behind difficult questions too early. First make the base strong.
For Quantitative Ability, start with Number System, Percentage, Profit and Loss, Ratio and Proportion, Average, Simple Interest, Compound Interest, and Time and Work. These topics are important and also help in many other chapters later.
Try to practice around 25 to 30 questions daily. For Verbal Ability, start learning 15 to 20 new English words every day. Read newspaper editorials. Practice grammar rules. Solve one Reading Comprehension daily.
A simple daily target in this phase can be:
- 2 hours Quant
- 1.5 hours English
- 30 minutes newspaper reading
- 30 minutes revision
Phase 2 (October to December 2026) – Complete the Syllabus
In the second phase of your IPMAT 2027 Preparation, start advanced topics and make your syllabus wider.
In Quant, focus on Algebra, Geometry, Probability, Permutation and Combination, and Coordinate Geometry.
In English, work more on Reading Comprehension practice, vocabulary revision, para jumbles, and sentence correction.
From this phase, you should also begin sectional mocks. One sectional mock every week is enough in the beginning.
This is the time when your preparation starts looking serious.
Phase 3 (January to March 2027) – Intensive Practice Time
This phase is mainly for practice. By now, your syllabus should be mostly done. So now your job is to solve more, think faster, and make fewer mistakes.
Focus on topic-wise tests, IPMAT previous year questions, speed improvement, and accuracy improvement.
Start giving at least 2 full-length mock tests every week.
Also make one error notebook. This is very imp. Write down your silly mistakes, weak topics, wrong formulas, grammar errors, and confusing question types. Revise this notebook regularly. It helps a lot more than students think.
Phase 4 (April to Exam Day) – Revision and Final Push
This is the last phase. Now you should not try to learn totally new things unless it is very necessary. This time should go only into revision and polishing. Focus on mock tests, formula revision, vocabulary revision, and weak topics.
Keep your mind calm in this phase. Many students spoil the final month by getting nervous and studying randomly. Dont do that. Just revise what you already prepared.
Subject-wise IPMAT Preparation Strategy
To score well in the exam, your IPMAT 2027 Preparation should include a balanced strategy for Quantitative Ability, Verbal Ability, and Logical Reasoning. Give enough time to every section and revise regularly.
Quantitative Ability
Quant is one of the most important parts of IPMAT. It carries good weight, and for many students it also becomes the hardest section.
Important topics are Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Number System, Probability, Time and Work, Speed and Distance, Percentage, and Profit and Loss.
Start from NCERT level basics if your concepts are weak. Solve questions every day. Do not depend on shortcuts from day one. First understand the method, then learn faster ways. Also keep revising formulas again and again because students forget them very quickly.
Verbal Ability
Many students ignore English, and later they regret it. Verbal can become a very good scoring section if you prepare it daily in small parts.
Practice Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary, Synonyms, Antonyms, Grammar, Sentence Correction, and Para Completion.
Read English newspapers every day. Learn new words in a notebook. Practice RCs regularly. Slowly your reading speed and understanding both will improve.
Logical Reasoning
Logical Reasoning is asked in some IPMAT exams, so it is safer to prepare it.
Important topics include Seating Arrangement, Blood Relation, Direction Sense, Coding-Decoding, Syllogism, and Puzzles.
Practice different question types daily. Reasoning improves more through solving than through only reading theory.
Daily Study Timetable
You do not need a very fancy timetable. A simple working plan is enough.
- Morning from 7:00 AM to 8:30 AM, study Quantitative Ability.
- From 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, do English Grammar.
- From 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, solve Reading Comprehension.
- From 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, practice Logical Reasoning.
- From 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, solve practice questions from any section.
- From 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, do revision.
- On Sunday, give one full-length mock test.
This is just a sample plan. You can change time according to your own routine, but daily study should stay regular.
IPMAT Mock Test
Mock tests are very important in IPMAT 2027 preparation. They help you improve speed, increase accuracy, learn time management, identify weak areas, and build confidence.
Start with one mock every week. In the last three months, increase the number.
But one thing is more important than giving mocks, analysing them. If you give a mock and never check your mistakes, then half benefit is lost.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Many students start preparation too late. Some ignore English. Some do not revise formulas. Some skip mock tests. Some never analyse mistakes. And many students study without a proper timetable.
One more common mistake is focusing only on easy topics. This gives fake confidence. Real improvement comes when you also work on the chapters that trouble you.
Simple Tips to Crack IPMAT 2027
- Build strong basics before touching difficult questions.
- Study every day. Don’t study 10 hours one day and then leave 3 days empty.
- Read newspapers regularly to improve English.
- Solve previous year questions.
- Revise every week.
- Analyse every mock carefully.
