Question

The population of a town increases by 5% annually and its present population is 640000. What will its population be in 2 years’ time?

A.

745880

B.

705600

C.

744880

D.

704600

Correct option is B

Given:

The population of a town increases annually = 5%

The present population = 640000

Solution:

According to the question:

The population of town in first year = 640000×5100640000 ×\frac{ 5}{100}

= 32000

After first year, the population of town = (640000 + 32000)

= 672000

Now,

The population of town in second year = 672000 × 5100\frac{5}{100}

= 33600

After second year, the population of town = 672000 + 33600

= 705600

Thus, the correct answer is (b) 705600.
