    Question

    What will be difference in population 3 years ago and 2 years ago of a town, whose current population is 110000 and which is increasing at a rate of 25% every year?

    A.

    13330

    B.

    13530

    C.

    14080

    D.

    14430

    Correct option is C

    Given:

    Current population = 110000

    Rate of increase = 25% per annum

    We are to find the difference between the population 3 years ago and 2 years ago.

    Formula Used:

    Population (n) years ago = Current Population ÷(1+R100)n\div \left(1 + \frac{R}{100}\right)^n

    Solution:

    Population 3 years ago = 110000(1+25100)3 \frac{110000}{(1+\frac{25}{100})^3}

    =110000(54)3 =110000×64125 =56320= \frac{110000}{(\frac54)^3} \\ \ \\= \frac{110000 \times 64}{125} \\ \ \\ = 56320

    Population 2 years ago = 110000(1+25100)2 \frac{110000}{(1+\frac{25}{100})^2}

    =110000×1625= \frac{110000\times 16}{25}

    = 70400

    Difference = 70400 - 56320 = 14080
