SSC CGL 2025 to be Conducted in Single Shift, Exam Centres Within 100 km: SSC Chairman

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has announced important reforms for the upcoming Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination 2025. The changes are aimed at ensuring fairness, reducing candidate inconvenience, and preventing technical issues that affected earlier exams.

Single Shift Examination for Tier-2

SSC Chairman S. Gopalakrishnan confirmed that the CGL Tier-2 exam will be held in a single shift across the country. This move is expected to provide uniformity in difficulty level and eliminate confusion caused by multiple exam sessions.

Exam Centres Within 100 km Radius

To reduce the burden of long-distance travel, the commission has decided that candidates will now be allotted centres within a 100 km radius of their residence. In past years, many aspirants had missed their exams due to far-off centres, making this step a major relief.

Four-Agency Model to Prevent Glitches

The commission admitted that the vendor transition from TCS to Eduquity during recent exams caused system crashes, Aadhaar verification delays, and technical failures. To avoid repeating such incidents, SSC will now adopt a four-agency model, dividing responsibilities such as question paper setting, technical infrastructure, and exam delivery among multiple partners.

Mismanagement and Candidate Protests

The reforms come after widespread criticism of the commission earlier this year. Under the hashtag #SSCMisManagement, thousands of aspirants and teachers protested against poor arrangements, sudden cancellations, and faulty biometric systems. Some protests in Delhi even led to police action against candidates, highlighting the growing frustration among aspirants.

Integrity Issues and Cash-for-Jobs Scandal

Concerns about recruitment integrity deepened when SSC recently published a list of 1,804 tainted candidates involved in a cash-for-jobs case, following a Supreme Court order. This revelation has raised questions about transparency in the commission’s selection process.

Revised Exam Dates in September

The SSC CGL Tier-1 exam 2025, originally scheduled between August 13 and 30, has been postponed.

  • Revised dates: Expected in Mid September
  • Admit cards: Likely to be released a few days before the exam

Additionally, aspirants must prepare for SSC’s new Sliding Scheme, introduced this year to ensure faster filling of vacancies.

SSC’s Assurance to Candidates

Chairman Gopalakrishnan stated that the commission has “learned its lessons” from the technical failures of July. He assured candidates that measures are in place to avoid disruptions and restore faith in the examination process.

For lakhs of aspirants waiting for the SSC CGL 2025, these reforms provide much-needed hope. However, the real test for the commission will be ensuring a smooth and fair exam on the scheduled day.
