NEET Counselling: OCI applicants eligible to apply for UG and PG medical courses

On Monday, the Supreme Court allowed all eligible Overseas Citizens of India candidates to take part in NEET general category counselling. This interim respite is only for the academic year 2021-2022, according to a bench consisting of Justices S A Nazeer and Krishna Murari.
MBBS/BDS courses and other undergraduate/postgraduate degrees in approved/recognized Medical/Dental & other Colleges/Institutes are available to qualifying applicants who are similarly situated in the General Counseling on par with Indian Citizens.
The order was issued in response to a petition filed by OCI candidates.
The OCI candidates challenged a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs requiring them to be treated equally to NRIs for NEET admission.
The Supreme Court also reminded Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati that the National Testing Agency and the counselling authorities have a legal obligation to carry out the judgement.

NEET UG Counselling 2021 Latest news and updates

NEET UG 2021 was conducted on 12th September.  The exam was conducted by NTA. The results have been announced for NEET 2021. This year the topper of NEET 2021 is Mrinal Kutter. NEET Counselling is expected to start soon.

All the NEET qualified students can apply for the counselling rounds. They need to pay a nominal amount and get themselves registered on the portal. During the counselling rounds, students will have to fill in their choices. After locking a seta, students will have to physically visit one of the counselling centres and then verify the documents.

After the documents are verified, students will be given reporting dates. They will have to report to the respective colleges where further official documents will be verified and formalities related to admission procedures will be done.

NEET UG 2021 results were delayed and were finally announced on 1st November. Mrinal Kutteri topped the NTA NEET UG 2021. If a student is not satisfied with the college allotted to him or her during the counselling round, then the students can float the choice and select any of the other medical colleges available in the range of the respective All India Rank.

20,890 seats are available across the country. All the seats will be occupied once the NEET counselling concludes.  The counselling fee for general category students is Rs 1000 and Rs 500 for reserved category students in central universities. In the case of Deemed universities, the registration fee is Rs 5000, irrespective of the category.
