In the academic year 2025-26, the NMC approved a total of 9,075 new MBBS seats in India, except those at AIIMS and JIPMER. The NEET UG 2025 seat matrix was revised multiple times throughout the year due to changes in the approval status of seats at several medical colleges.

Candidates should carefully evaluate the modified seat matrix and adhere to the revised timetable given by the National Medical Commission (NMC). In Andhra Pradesh, Santhiram Medical College in Nandyal has raised its MBBS intake from 150 to 250 seats, while Anna Gowri Medical College and Hospital has been approved to start with 150 seats. Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Karnataka have all added more MBBS seats to their respective universities, increasing prospects for medical students.
In contrast, Delhi’s Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research experienced a 150-seat reduction in its matrix.

NEET 2025 Revised Seat Matrix

In September, the National Medical Commission (NMC) added 6,850 seats while removing over 1,056 seats, citing outstanding court issues, clearance delays, renewals, and the inclusion of supernumerary seats. Approximately ten days later, the seat matrix was changed again, with 7,375 seats added and 456 seats removed. This modification came after the Cabinet approved 10,000 MBBS seats for Phase 3 of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) expansion.

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has also extended the NEET UG Round 3 counselling choice-filling deadline to October 13, 2025. Candidates who have not yet submitted their preferences are urged to go to the official website, mcc.nic.in. The seat allocation results for Round 3 are likely to be released by October 15.
