The Central Board Of Secondary Education has brought major changes to its examination pattern which will be applicable for the Academic Year 2022-23. CBSE has also brought many changes in its assessment scheme for the Academic Year 2022-23. As per the notice, the two terms per year system will now be abolished and CBSE will go back to its traditional way of conducting one exam in a year. The two-term examination every year was introduced during the COVID-19 Pandemic which will now be rolled back. CBSE Board Exam 2023-Changes for Class 10th
In a major change, the CBSE has decided to implement at least 40% competency-based questions for classes 9th and 10th. These competency-based questions can be case-study questions, multiple-choice questions, and source-based integrated questions. In addition to this, at least 20% of the questions should be objective type, and the remaining 40% will be short or long answer type questions for the class 10th CBSE 2023 exams.

According to The New Assessment Policy for the CBSE Exams from 2023, a minimum of 30% of the questions would be competency-based including multiple-choice questions, case study questions, and source-based questions. The objective type of questions will carry 20% Weightage and the remaining 50% of the questions will be long or short descriptive type questions.
CBSE Board Exam 2023- How is New Assessment Policy Different From Old One?
For Class 10th CBSE exams, one academic year was divided into two terms, each year there were two exams and in those exams, 30% of the questions were competency-based, which means that 30% of the questions were multiple-choice questions, case scenarios, or source-based questions. And as per the new scheme of assessment, there will be only one exam annually and there will be at least 40% of the questions will be multiple-choice questions or source-based or case scenario-based questions.
For the Class 12th CBSE Examinations, the questions for the CBSE Board Exams 2022 consisted of 20% questions that were competency-based which according to the new evaluation scheme is now increased to 30%, such questions will be case scenarios, source-based, or multiple-choice questions. And the two terms every year examination system also stands scrapped and is replaced with one exam annually. The CBSE has focused on increasing the competency-based questions for both Class 10 and Class 12 which tests the conceptual knowledge of the students.
Why did CBSE Introduce New Assessment Scheme?
As per the official notification released by CBSE on its official website www.cbse.gov.in, the reasons for implementing the new scheme of assessment have been cited. As per the notice, “National Policy 2020 has affirmed the need to move to competency-based learning. This will equip the learners with key competencies to meet the challenges of the 21st Century proactively. Accordingly, the Board has taken multiple steps toward the implementation of Competency-Based Education (CBE) in Schools. These range from aligning assessment to CBE, development of exemplar resources for teachers and students on CBE Pedagogy and assessment, and continued teacher capacity building.”
The notice has also stated that it is initiating further changes in the evaluation scheme for 2023, so as to align with Competency-Based Education and more changes will be brought in the near future. In the future as well the question paper shall contain more questions that are application based i.e in the form of multiple-choice, case-based, or source-based. The notice further says that questions that assess the application of concepts in real life and unfamiliar situations will also be asked in the question paper.
The CBSE also will release sample papers and questions consisting of application-based questions, following the new pattern for the practice of students and for them to practice for their practice.
CBSE Class 10th Term 2 Result 2022 Date
CBSE Class 10 Exams for the year 2021-22, have concluded and evaluation of the exams is underway, and results for the CBSE 10 Exams will be declared soon. The exams for CBSE Class 10th concluded on 24th May 2022. The Results for the examinations of Term 2 are expected to be released in June 2022. Results are normally expected to be declared within 20 days from the conclusion of the exams.
The Exams for Class 12 are still underway and are going to get completed on 24th June 2022. CBSE however has not released the assessment criteria for the academic year 2021-22. It is expected that the assessment criteria will be released before the declaration of the results. The marking scheme too has not been finalized yet and will be finalized after the conclusion of second term examinations. Once the marks of the students in Term 1 and Term 2 are obtained the same shall be compared and then the Board will decide on the adequate weightage to be given to marks scored in each term.
