Question

Which of the options given below correctly describes the nature of the roots of the quadratic equation x2+43x+3=0?x^2+4√3 x+3=0?

A.

irrational and equal

B.

irrational and unequal

C.

rational and equal

D.

rational and unequal

Correct option is D

Given:

Equation:x2+43x+3=0x^2 + 4\sqrt{3}x + 3 = 0

Formula Used:

Discriminant (D): D=b24acD = b^2 - 4ac

Solution:

Here , from the equation :x2+43x+3=0x^2 + 4\sqrt{3}x + 3 = 0

a=1,b=43,c=3a = 1, b = 4\sqrt{3}, c = 3

Then,

D=(43)24(1)(3)=4812=36D = (4\sqrt{3})^2 - 4(1)(3) = 48 - 12 = 36

Since D > 0 but not a perfect square, roots are rational and unequal.
