Which of the following quadratic equations satisfies that the roots are 3 and -2 ?
Question

Which of the following quadratic equations satisfies that the roots are 3 and -2 ?

A.

x2x+6=0x^2-x+6=0

B.

x2+x6=0x^2+x-6=0

C.

x2x6=0x^2-x-6=0

D.

x2+x+6=0x^2+x+6=0

Correct option is C

Given:

The roots are 3 and -2

Formula used:

ax2+bx+c=0ax^2 + bx + c = 0

Sum of rootsα+β α+β = -ba\frac{b}{a}

Product of roots = αβα⋅β = ca\frac{c}{a}

Solution:

α\alpha = 3

 ββ = -2

Sum of roots = 3 + (-2) = 1
Product of roots  = 3×(2)=63 \times (-2) = -6

Now,

(xα)(xβ)=0(x−α)(x−β)=0

(x3)(x+2)=0(x−3)(x+2)=0

(x2+2x3x6)=0(x ^2 +2x−3x−6)=0

(x2x6)=0(x ^2 −x−6)=0 ,

x2x6=0x ^2 −x−6=0
