Question

The population of a village 4 years ago was 3,20,000. Due to migration to cities, it decreases at the rate of 5% every year. Find the decrease in its population in the last 4 years.

A.

83,595

B.

59,358

C.

53,985

D.

93,558

Correct option is B

Given:

Population of village 4 years ago  =3,20,000

Population decrease every year = 5%

Solution:

Population 3 years ago = 320000 - 5% of 3,20,000 = 3,20,000 - 16,000 = 3,04,000

Population 2 years ago = 3,04,000 - 5% of 3,04,000 = 3,04,000 - 15,200 = 2,88,800

Population 1 year ago = 2,88,800 - 5% of 2,88,800 = 2,88,800 - 14440 =  2,74,360

Population at present = 274360 - 5% of 274360 = 274360 - 13718 = 2,60,642

Population decreased during 4 years = 3,20,000 - 2,60,642 = 59,358
