Question

The population of a district is 340000, out of which 217000 are males. 11% of the population is literate. If 11% males are literate, then what percentage of females are literate?

A.

12%

B.

14%

C.

13%

D.

11%

Correct option is D

Given:

Total population = 3,40,000

Male population = 2,17,000

Literate population = 11% of 3,40,000 = 37,400

Literate males = 11% of 2,17,000 = 23,870

Formula Used:

Literate Females = Total Literates - Literate Males

Female Literacy %  = (Literate FemalesTotal Females)×100\left( \frac{\text{Literate Females}}{\text{Total Females}} \right) \times 100

Solution:

Total females = 3,40,000 – 2,17,000 = 1,23,000

Literate females = 37,400 – 23,870 = 13,530

Female Literacy % = 13,5301,23,000×100=11%\frac{13,530}{1,23,000} \times 100 = 11\%
