Observe the figure below and find the area of trapezium PQRS.
Question

Observe the figure below and find the area of trapezium PQRS.

A.

119 cm2cm^2

B.

108 cm2cm^2

C.

114 cm2cm^2

D.

102 cm2cm^2

Correct option is D

Given:

Formula Used:

Area of trapezium = 12×(sum of parallel sides)×height\frac{1}{2} \times (sum \ of \ parallel \ sides) \times height

Solution:

PQR is a right angle triangle

BY Pythagoras Theorem

(QR)2=(PR)2(PQ)2 =(15)2(9)2 =22581 =144(QR)^2 = (PR)^2 - (PQ)^2 \\\ = (15)^2 - (9)^2 \\\ = 225 - 81 \\\ = 144

QR = 12 cm

QR is the height of the trapezium

Then the area of the trapezium   = 12×(sum of parallel sides)×height\frac{1}{2} \times (sum \ of \ parallel \ sides) \times height

=    12×(9+8)×12\frac{1}{2} \times (9 + 8 ) \times 12

= 102 cm2
