    The area of a trapezium is 160 sq. cm. If the lengths of the parallel sides are 20 cm and 12 cm, respectively, then the perpendicular distance (in cm)
    Question

    The area of a trapezium is 160 sq. cm. If the lengths of the parallel sides are 20 cm and 12 cm, respectively, then the perpendicular distance (in cm) between the parallel sides is:

    A.

    10

    B.

    11

    C.

    12

    D.

    8

    Correct option is A

    Given:

    Area of the trapezium = 160 cm²

    Length of the first parallel side a=20 cm

    Length of the second parallel side b=12 cm

    Formula Used:

    A = 12×(a+b)×h\frac{1}{2} \times (a + b) \times h

    where a and b are the lengths of the parallel sides, and h is the perpendicular distance (height) between them

    Solution:

    160 = 12×(20+12)×h\frac{1}{2} \times (20 + 12) \times h

    160 = 12×32×h\frac{1}{2} \times 32 \times h

    160 = 16×h16 \times h

    h = 10cm
