Solution: 

x^2​ - 5x - 6         

= x²- 6x + 1x - 6 

=  x(x - 6) + 1(x - 6)

= (x-6) (x+1) 

Roots of the equation x = 6, -1

(a - b)² = (6 - ( -1))^2​ = (6 + 1)^2​ = (7)^2​ =  49
