Question

1200 apples were distributed among a group of boys. Each boy got thrice many of the apples as the number of boys in that group. The number of boys in the group was:

A.

20

B.

15

C.

25

D.

40

Correct option is A

Given:

Total apples = 1200

Each boy received thrice as many apples as the number of boys.

Solution:

Let the number of boys be x.

Each boy received 3x apples.

Total apples distributed = Number of boys × Apples each boy received:

x × 3x = 1200

3x23x^2 = 1200

x2x^2 = 12003\frac{1200}{3}

x2x^2 = 400

x = 400\sqrt{400}

x = 20

The number of boys in the group is 20.
