Note – The Special Recruitment drive for Uniformed Services includes various posts such as Constable Band (IRBn), Constable Bugler (IRBn), Constable (IRBn) and Fireman, which are reserved only for Male Candidates. While in the same recruitment drive, Constable Civil Police posts are reserved for Female Candidates.

What is the IRB GD Constable Exam Date?

As per the official schedule, the Indian Reserve Battalion General Duty (IRB GD) written exam will be held on 10 May 2026. After that exam, the APSSB will conduct the PET/PST and Trade Test on 25 May 2026 at multiple exam centres for those candidates who will clear the IRB GD Written Examination.

• Out of the total 984 vacancies, 67 posts are reserved for the Ex-Servicemen category.
• The Board only release the vacancies as reported by the requisitioning departments and does not play any role in determining the total number of vacancies
• As per DoPT guidelines (OM dated 01 July 1998), APST candidates selected on the same standards as General candidates will not be counted under reserved vacancies.
• Such candidates will not be eligible to be counted against Unreserved (General) vacancies.

Can Female Candidates Apply for IRB GD Constable Posts?

Yes, but this applies only to the Constable Civil Police (Female) posts. A total of 170 vacancies have been reserved for female candidates under this recruitment. All other posts, including Constable IRBn, Constable Band, Constable Bugler, Fireman, and Special Tiger Guard, are exclusively for male candidates.

What is the Age Relaxation?

Candidates are provided with age relaxation benefits as per their category. APST candidates get relaxation of up to 5 years, while Ex-Servicemen are allowed age relaxation based on their service period in the Armed Forces.

Note: An Ex-Serviceman (Ex-SM) refers to a person who has served in any rank, either as a combatant or non-combatant, in the Regular Army, Navy, or Air Force of the Indian Union.

IRB GD Physical Test 2026: PST/PET/Trade Test

The No Negative Marking: Advantage

Most competitive exams include negative marking. However, the General Duty Constable exam of the Indian Reserve Battalion does not have any negative marking.

What is the Salary Package?

As per the IRB GD Constable 2026 notification, the salary starts at a basic pay of ₹21,700 and can go up to ₹69,100 over time. In addition to this, you will receive state government allowances such as Dearness Allowance (DA) and House Rent Allowance (HRA). For posts like the Special Tiger Guard (STPF) or Fireman, there may be additional specific hardship or risk allowances depending on the nature and location of the duty.

Ques. What is the deadline to apply for the 2026 IRB recruitment?
Ans. The online application window for the 984 vacancies (including Constable IRBn, Fireman, and Special Tiger Guard) will strictly close on April 10, 2026.

Ques. Can female candidates apply for all IRB positions?
Ans. No. While there are 984 total spots, the Constable (IRBn), Constable Band/Bugler, and Fireman positions are reserved exclusively for male candidates. Female candidates are eligible to apply for the Constable Civil Police positions (170 vacancies) and the Special Tiger Guard posts.

Ques. I am an APST candidate; will my selection always count toward the reserved quota?
Ans. Not necessarily. As per the latest guidelines:

• If you qualify based on the same standards as general candidates, you will be adjusted against Unreserved (UR) seats.
• If you utilise any relaxed standards (like age concessions), you will be counted against the APST reserved quota and cannot claim a UR seat.

Ques. Is there a Trade Test for all applicants?
Ans. No, the Trade Test is only mandatory for candidates applying for the Constable Band and Constable Bugler positions. You must demonstrate practical knowledge and skill in playing the respective musical instruments.
