The flag was raised by the first prime minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru. On Independence Day, the flag is unfurled followed by the National Anthem by everyone present in the ceremony. It is now a tradition for all the prime ministers to raise the flag in Red Fort located in old Delhi. A salute is given by firing 21 guns followed by a helicopter that showers the tricolor flowers on the National Flag. The tricolor in our flag signifies three different meanings. The first is the Saffron color and signifies courage and sacrifice. The white color signifies courage and truth. The green color signifies faith and chivalry.
