Question

Zakir travels from City A to City B. If Zakir drives his car at 2/3 of his normal speed, then he reaches City B 10 minutes late. Find the time (in minutes) that Zakir would have taken to travel from City A to City B if he drove at his normal speed.

A.

20

B.

30

C.

26

D.

24

Correct option is A

Given:

- If Zakir drives at 2/3 of his normal speed, he is 10 minutes late.

- Let the normal time taken to reach City B be x minutes.

Formula Used:

- Time =DistanceSpeed\frac{Distance }{ Speed}

- If speed decreases, time increases proportionally for the same distance.

- Let normal time = x, then new time = (32\frac{3}{2})x (because speed is 23\frac{2}{3} of normal)

- New time - Normal time = 10

Solution:

Let the time taken at normal speed be x minutes.

Then, time taken at 23\frac{2}{3} of the normal speed = (32\frac{3}{2})x minutes.

According to the question:

(32)xx=10 =>3x2x2=10 =>x2=10 =>x=20\left(\frac{3}{2}\right)x - x = 10 \\\ \\\Rightarrow \frac{3x - 2x}{2} = 10 \\\ \\\Rightarrow \frac{x}{2} = 10 \\\ \\\Rightarrow x = 20

Hence, Zakir would have taken 20 minutes to travel from City A to City B at normal speed.
