Question

The sum of five numbers is 655. The average of the first two numbers is 77 and the third number is 128. Find the average of the remaining two numbers.

A.

187.5

B.

186.5

C.

206

D.

205

Correct option is B

Given:

Sum of five numbers = 655;

Average of first two numbers = 77

Third number = 128

Required: Average of the remaining two numbers.

Formula Used:

Average = Sum of numbercount of numbers\frac{\text{Sum of number}}{\text{count of numbers}}

Solution:

Sum of first two numbers = 77 × 2 = 154

Sum of first three numbers  = 154 + 128 = 282

Sum of last two numbers = 655 - 282 = 373

Average = 3732 \frac{373}{2} = 186.5
