    Question

The length of a rectangle is 3 cm more than the breadth and area of the rectangle is 180 sq cm. If side of a square is 3 cm more than length of the rectangle, then find the area (in sq cm) of the square.

    A.

    256

    B.

    225

    C.

    324

    D.

    361

    E.

    400

    Correct option is C

Let breadth of the rectangle = x cm
So, length of the rectangle = (x+3) cm
    ATQ –
    x(x+3)=180
    x ² + 3x – 180 =0
    x ²+ 15x – 12x – 180 = 0
    x = 12
So, length of rectangle = 15 cm
    And, side of square = 15 + 3 = 18 cm
    Required area = 18 ² = 324 cm ²
