Question

If the perimeter of a square is doubled, then its area becomes

A.

8 times

B.

4 times

C.

2 times

D.

3 times

Correct option is B

Given
The perimeter of a square is doubled.

Formula Used
Perimeter of square = 4 × side
Area of square = side × side

Solution
Let the original side of the square be a.

Original perimeter = 4a

Original area = a×a=a2a × a = a^{2}

New perimeter = 2 × 4a = 8a

New side = 8a4=2a \frac{8a}{4} = 2a
New area =  2a×2a=4a22a × 2a = 4a^{2}

New area = 4 × Original area

So the correct answer is (b)
