    Question

The correct statement for peroxydisulfuric and dithionic acids from the following, is:

    A.

Each of these has two O–H bonds.

    B.

Peroxydisulfuric has one O–H bond and dithionic acid has two O–H bonds.

    C.

Peroxydisulfuric has two O–H bonds and dithionic acid has one O–H bond

    D.

Each of these has only one O–H bond

    Correct option is A

Peroxydisulfuric acid is an inorganic compound with a chemical formula (HO3SO)2. This oxoacid features sulfur in its +6 oxidation state and a peroxide group. Sulfur adopts the usual tetrahedral geometry. Peroxydisulfuric acid is a precursor to several salts including sodium peroxydisulfate, potassium peroxydisulfate, and ammonium peroxydisulfate. These salts are used to initiate the polymerization of acrylonitrile, styrene, and related monomers. This application exploits the tendency of the peroxydisulfate anion to undergo homolysis to produce radicals. They are also used as cleaning of circuit boards.

Dithionic acid, H2S2O6, is the inorganic compound with the formula H2S2O6. It is the doubly protonated derivative of dithionate, a well-characterized dianion. Dithionic acid is mainly observed and characterized as an aqueous solution.
