Question

Study the following line graph carefully and answer the question.

Supposing if in 2020, the average value of goods sold per container was same as that of 2019, then what would be the new approximate value of total exports (in crores) in 2020 if number of containers in 2020 remains unchanged?

A.

555

B.

500

C.

346

D.

387

Correct option is D

Given:

The average value of goods per container in 2020 is the same as in 2019.

The number of containers in 2020 remains unchanged.

Formula Used:

Average value per containerTotal exportNumber ofcontainers\frac{Total\ export}{Number\ of containers}

Solution:

Total exports in 2019 = 280 crores

Number of containers in 2019 = 130

 Average value per container (2019) = 280130\frac{280}{130} = 2.15

The average value per container in 2020 will be the same as 2019.

Calculating the total exports for 2020:

New total exports (2020) =Average value per container (2020) × Number of containers in 2020

= 2.15 ×\times180

 = 387 crores
