Question

Pre-Ph.D. exam score of 10 students are plotted against their M.Sc. marks. Which ofthe following is true?

A.

Two students have scored better in Pre-Ph.D. than their M.Sc. exam

B.

All those students who scored 50 in Pre-D. scored more marks in their M.Sc. exam

C.

Two students scored the same marks in their Pre-Ph.D and M.Sc. exams

D.

The student who scored maximum in M.Sc. is the only student to get maximum in Pre-Ph.D. exam

Correct option is C

Solution:

First, we will write the marks of all the students in co-ordinate form, with MSc marks as x co-ordinate and PhD marks as y co-ordinate, then we will have the following data of students:

(40,30), (40,40), (40,50), (50,30),

(50,40), (60,50), (70,50), (80,50),

(70,70), (90,70)

From the above data it is clear that, the option stating about two students scoring the same marks in their Pre-Ph.D. and M.Sc. exam is correct and all other options are incorrect.

∴ Two students scored the same marks in their Pre‐Ph.D. and M.Sc. exams is the correct option.
