Question

A man has to cover a distance of 753 km in 12 hours. If he covers two-third of this distance in 23\frac{2}{3} of the time, then what should his speed (in km/hr) be to cover the remaining distance in the time left?

A.

41.8

B.

31.3

C.

52.25

D.

62.75

Correct option is D

Given:
Total distance to be covered = 753 km
Total time available = 12 hours
Two-thirds of the distance is covered in two-thirds of the time.
Formula Used:
Speed = Distance / Time
Remaining distance = Total distance - Distance covered.
Solution:
Two-thirds of the distance = 23×753=502 km\frac{2}{3} \times 753 = 502 \, \text{km}
Two-thirds of the time = 23×12=8 hours\frac{2}{3} \times 12 = 8 \, \text{hours}
Speed = 5028=62.75 km/h\frac{502}{8} = 62.75 \, \text{km/h}
Remaining distance = 753 - 502 = 251 km
Remaining time = 12 - 8 = 4 hours
Speed required to cover the remaining distance in the remaining time = 2514=62.75 km/h\frac{251}{4} = 62.75 \, \text{km/h}
