Question

A does half as much work as B in three-fourth of the time taken by B. If together they take 12 days to complete the work, how much time shall B take to do it alone?

A.

15 days

B.

20 days

C.

10 days

D.

16 days

Correct option is B

Given

A does half as much work as B in three-fourths of the time taken by B.

Together, A and B take 12 days to complete the work.

Formula Used

Efficiency = WorkTime\frac{\text{Work}}{\text{Time}}

Solution:

From the condition efficiency of A and B

AB=23\frac{A}{B} = \frac{2}{3}

Total work = 5 ×\times 12 = 60

B's time taken alone = 603=20 days\frac{60}{3} = 20 \ days
