    Question

A completes 80% of a work in 20 days. Then B joins A and they complete the remaining work in 3 days. How long will B alone take to complete the whole work?

    A.

    37.5 days

    B.

    40 days

    C.

    039 days

    D.

    35.5 days

    Correct option is A

    Given:
A completes 80% of work in 20 days.
Remaining 20% work completed by A and B together in 3 days.
    Formula Used:
    Work = Rate × Time.
    Solution:
Let the total work be 100 units.
    A does 80% of 100 = 80 units in 20 days
Efficiency of A = 4 unit per day
Now remaining work = 20 units
    Work done by A in next 3 days = 4 × 3 = 12 units
    Remaining work done by B in 3 days, so B’s efficiency = 83\frac 83
    B alone can complete the whole work in = 100 ÷ 83\frac 83 = 37.5 days
