Question

A can complete a task in 10 days. He worked for 4 days and then stopped. B completed the remaining work in 9 days. In how many days can A and B together complete the task?

A.

6 days

B.

5 days

C.

4 days

D.

7 days

Correct option is A

Let Total Work = 20 unit

Work done by A in 10 days

Efficiency of A = 2010=2unitperday\frac{20}{10}= 2 unit per day

Work done by A in 4 days = 2× 4 = 8 unit

Reamining work = 20-8 = 12 unit

It has to be completed by B in 9 days

Efficiency of B = 129=43\frac{12}{9} = \frac{4}{3}

Total time taken by both of them together to complete the whole work = 202+43=6 days\frac{20}{2 + \frac{4}{3}} = 6\, days
