What is the Eligibility Criteria?

Candidates must fulfil the prescribed educational qualification and other eligibility conditions on or before the closing date of the online application.

HPPSC Medical Officer 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification Candidates must possess a recognized medical qualification included in the First or Second Schedule or Part-II of the Third Schedule of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, subject to the conditions specified in the advertisement.

Candidates must also have completed their compulsory rotating internship.

Desirable Qualification
  • Post Graduate Degree or Diploma recognized under the relevant provisions.
  • Postgraduate qualification from a recognized institution as mentioned in Appendix-A.
  • Knowledge of the customs, manners and dialects of Himachal Pradesh and suitability for appointment under the prevailing state conditions.
Age Limit 18 to 45 years as on 1 January 2026.

Age Relaxation: 5 years for eligible Bonafide SC, ST, OBC, Wards of Freedom Fighters and Persons with Disabilities of Himachal Pradesh. Relaxation for Himachal Pradesh Government employees and Ex-Servicemen will apply as per government instructions.

Salary Candidates appointed to the Medical Officer (General Wing) post will be engaged as Job Trainees. According to the notification, the fixed emoluments for the Job Trainee are ₹34,000 per month.

HPPSC Medical Officer Exam Pattern 2026

The HPPSC Medical Officer (General wing) Exam Pattern is as follows:

Paper I: Screening Test

Paper I will be a one-hour objective-type screening test carrying 100 marks. It may be conducted through CBT or in offline mode and will include negative marking. The screening test will contain multiple-choice question.

Paper II: Subject Aptitude Test

Paper II will be a descriptive Subject Aptitude Test (SAT) of three hours carrying 120 marks. The syllabus for Paper II is decided by the Commission and the detailed syllabus has been uploaded on the HPPSC website.

Negative Marking

HPPSC has prescribed negative marking for objective-type screening tests. One-fourth (0.25) of the marks assigned to a question will be deducted for an incorrect answer.
Candidates should also note that leaving a question completely blank attracts the same penalty. If a candidate does not want to answer a question, the prescribed option E should be selected/marked.

HPPSC Medical Officer Qualifying Marks

Candidates appearing for the Subject Aptitude Test must secure the prescribed minimum marks to qualify for the Personality Test.

  • General Category: 45%
  • Reserved Categories: 40%

Candidates securing marks below the prescribed minimum will not be considered for the remaining selection process.

The Personality Test carries 30 marks. The minimum qualifying marks are 40% (12 marks) for General Category candidates and 30% (9 marks) for reserved category candidates.

The notification lists Shimla as the examination station. However, the Commission reserves the right to change examination centres depending on circumstances and availability. Candidates should therefore check their final admit card for the exact examination centre and related instructions.

HPPSC Medical Officer Selection Process 2026

The selection process for the post consists of the following stages:
