Bihar’s Health Department has officially announced that the department will fill 32,700 vacant posts within the next three months to improve public health services across the state. Health Minister Mangal Pandey announced this after taking charge. The fast-track recruitment will include clinical, paramedical, and technical positions to reduce the workload in hospitals and ensure better healthcare for the public.
Doctors and Dental Officers First
Of the total, 1,471 doctor posts will be appointed next month. This batch includes 663 General Medical Officers (physicians) and 808 Dental Officers, both of which are expected to be on board by December. The state has already released advertisements and taken requisite steps to fast-track these appointments.
Nursing and Midwifery: Large-Scale Hiring
Nursing recruitment forms a substantial portion of the drive. Important figures released include:
- Staff Nurse (GNM): 11,389 posts (examinations completed; postings to follow after BTSC recommendations)
- ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife): 8,938 posts (requisition sent to BTSC)
- Tutor (Nursing): 498 posts (exam completed)
These hires aim to bolster frontline nursing strength in primary and secondary care centres.
Medical Education & Specialist Cadre
Recruitment for teaching and specialist posts is also underway:
- Assistant Professor: 1,711 posts (Advertisement released)
- Senior Resident / Tutor: 1,047 posts (Advertisement released)
- Associate Professor (Contract): 655 posts
- Professor (Contract): 269 posts (Advertisement released)
- 121 Doctor-Teachers in the AYUSH sector (Advertisement issued)
Technical and Allied Health Staff
Examinations for technical posts have been completed and many appointments are in the pipeline: 12,627 technical posts were recently processed. Specific counts include:
- Pharmacist: 2,473
- Paridhapaka: 3,326
- Lab Technician: 2,969
- Operation Theatre Assistant: 1,683
- X-ray Technician: 1,232
- ECG Technician: 242
- Dental Workers: 702
Supporting Infrastructure
Health Minister Mangal Pandey also said the construction of a 400-bed super-specialty orthopaedic hospital at Rajvansh-Nagar, Patna, is expected to be completed within the same three-month window, signaling simultaneous investment in workforce and infrastructure.
What This Means
Officials say the concentrated recruitment and new facilities will reduce patient loads on existing staff, shorten wait times, and strengthen district and sub-district health services. With bulk appointments and postings moving at pace, Bihar is attempting a rapid remediation of chronic staffing gaps to improve service delivery across the state’s health system.
