Sol. Given,
P=40 kN=40×10^3 N
A=10×20 mm^2
σ= ?
σ=P/A
=(40×10^3)/(10×20)
▭(σ=200 MPa)

Sol. Malleability is the property of material allows it to expand in all direction without rupture or it is the property of a material by virtue of which it can be beaten or rolled into plates.

S3. Ans.(a)
Sol. Maximum stress inside thin cylinder.
σ_ind= Pd/2t
180 = (9×500)/2t
t = 12.5 mm

S4. Ans.(c)
Sol. ▭(Relative stability (S_r )=(Amount of oxygen available in effluent)/(Total amount of oxygen required in 1st stage BOD))

Sol. The observed hydrometer reading is further being corrected by following –
– Meniscus correction (Cm)
– Temperature correction (C_T )
– Dispersing agent correction (C_D )
→ Meniscus correction is always positive & dispersing agent correction is always negative.
→ If temperature greater than 27°c then temperature correction is Positive and when temperature is less than 27°C then temperature correction is negative.
