Question

What time (in seconds) is required for a 398 m long train to cross a 802 m long tunnel, if the train travels at a speed of 45 km/h?

A.

103

B.

94

C.

93

D.

96

Correct option is D

Given:

Length of the train = 398 m

Length of the tunnel = 802 m

Speed of the train = 45 km/h

Formula Used:

Speed in m/s =  Speed in km/h×518\frac{\text{Speed in km/h} \times 5}{18}

Time = Total DistanceSpeed in m/s\frac{\text{Total Distance}}{\text{Speed in m/s}}

Solution:

Total distance to cover = 398 + 802 = 1200 m

Speed in m/s = 45×518 \frac{45 \times 5}{18} = 12.5 m/s

Time = 120012.5\frac{1200}{12.5} = 96 seconds
