    Two trains are moving in opposite directions at speeds of 60 km/h and 70 km/h. The length of one train is 170 m. The time taken by them to cross each
    Question

    Two trains are moving in opposite directions at speeds of 60 km/h and 70 km/h. The length of one train is 170 m. The time taken by them to cross each other is 26 seconds. The length (in m) of the other train, correct to 2 decimal places, is:

    A.

    768.86

    B.

    770.75

    C.

    771.56

    D.

    769.34

    Correct option is A

    Given:
    Speed of first train = 60 km/h
    Speed of second train = 70 km/h
    Length of first train = 170 m
    Time to cross each other = 26 s
    Formula Used:
    Relative speed (opposite direction) = (Speed₁ + Speed₂)
    Distance = (Length₁ + Length₂)
    Time = Distance ÷ Relative Speed
    Solution:
    Relative speed = (60 + 70) km/h = 130 km/h
     In m/s = 130 × (5 ÷ 18) = 36.11 m/s
    Time = 26 s, Distance = Length₁ + Length₂
    26 = (170 + Length₂) ÷ 36.11
    170 + Length₂ = 26 × 36.11 = 938.86
    Length₂ = 938.86 − 170 = 768.86
