What is the area of a rhombus, whose sides are 25 cm and one of the diagonals is 14 cm?
Question

What is the area of a rhombus, whose sides are 25 cm and one of the diagonals is 14 cm?

A.

330 cm2

B.

310 cm2

C.

336 cm2

D.

300 cm2

Correct option is C

Given:
Sides = 25 cm, one diagonal = 14 cm.

Formula Used:

Area of rhombus = 12×diagonal1×diagonal2\frac{1}{2} \times \text{diagonal}_1 \times \text{diagonal}_2

Relation between diagonal and side of the rhombus;

d12+d22=4×side2d_1^2 + d_2^2 = 4 \times \text{side}^2

where d1 and d2 are diagonals
Solution:

Putting the values;

142+d22=4×25214^2 + d_2^2 = 4 \times 25^2

196+d22=2500196 + d_2^2 = 2500

d22=2304, d2=48d_2^2 = 2304, \\ \implies d_2 = 48

Now,

Area = 12×14×48=336 cm2\frac{1}{2} \times 14 \times 48 = 336 \, \text{cm}^2

Thus, the Area of the rhombus is 336 cm2
