Question

A hall is 42 m long and its breadth is 1/3 of length. Its floor is to be covered with tiles of 50 cm length and 30 cm breadth. Required number of tiles will be

A.

3290

B.

3620

C.

3920

D.

3260

Correct option is C

Given:

Length of hall = 42 m

Breadth of hall = 13\frac{1}{3} of length

Size of one tile = 50 cm × 30 cm

Find required number of tiles

Formula Used:

Area = Length × Breadth

Number of tiles = (Area of floor) ÷ (Area of one tile)

Solution:

Breadth of hall:

13×42\frac{1}{3} \times 42 = 14 m

Area of hall42×14=588 m242 \times 14 = 588 \text{ m}^2

Convert tile dimensions into metres:

50 cm=0.5 m,30 cm=0.3 m50 \text{ cm} = 0.5 \text{ m}, \quad 30 \text{ cm} = 0.3 \text{ m}

Area of one tile0.5×0.3=0.15 m20.5 \times 0.3 = 0.15 \text{ m}^2

Number of tiles required 5880.15 \frac{588}{0.15} = 3920 tiles
