Question

The sum of five numbers is 655. The average of the first two numbers is 78 and the third number is 110. Find the average of the remaining two numbers.

A.

195.5

B.

188

C.

194.5

D.

189

Correct option is C

Given:

Sum of five numbers = 655

Average of first two numbers = 78

Third number = 110

Formula Used:

Sum = Average × Number of terms

Solution:

Sum of first two numbers = 78 × 2 = 156

Third number = 110

Sum of first three numbers = 156 + 110 = 266

Remaining sum = 655 - 266 =  389

Average of remaining two = 3892\frac{389} 2= 194.5
