Question

The sum of five numbers is 655. The average of the first two numbers is 76 and the thirdnumber is 103. Find the average of the remaining two numbers?

A.

179

B.

200

C.

180

D.

201

Correct option is B

Given:

The sum of five numbers = 655

Average of the first two numbers = 76

The third number = 103

Formula Used:

Average = Sum of numbersNumber of numbers\frac{\text{Sum of numbers}} {\text{Number of numbers}}

Total sum of the numbers = sum of the first two numbers + third number + sum of the remaining two numbers

Solution:

Sum of the first two numbers = 76 × 2 = 152

Sum of the first three numbers = 152 + 103 = 255

Sum of the remaining two numbers = 655 - 255 = 400

Average of the remaining two numbers = 4002\frac{400} 2 = 200

The average of the remaining two numbers is 200
