Question

The speeds of three trains are in the ratio of 2 : 3 : 5. The amount of time taken by these trains to travel the same distance is in the ratio of:

A.

12:13:15\frac{1}{2}:\frac{1}{3}:\frac{1}{5}

B.

6 : 12 : 18

C.

2 : 3 : 4

D.

2 : 3 : 5

Correct option is A

Given:

The speed of three trains are in the ratio of 2 : 3 : 5

Concept used:

Time is inversely proportional to the speed given that distance is constant =T1S= T ∝ \frac{1}{S}

Solution:

Time taken by the first train (T1) = 12\frac{1}{2}

Time taken by the second train (T2) = 13\frac{1}{3}

Time taken by the third train (T3) = 15\frac{1}{5}

Therefore, the ratio of time taken by trains = T1 : T2 : T3 = 12:13:15\frac{1}{2}:\frac{1}{3}:\frac{1}{5}

Hence, option (a) is the correct answer.
