    Question

    The speed of a car is 20 metres/second. The distance (in kilometres) travelled by the car in 2 hours and 20 minutes is:

    A.

    162

    B.

    168

    C.

    166

    D.

    158

    Correct option is B

    Given:

    Speed of the car = 20 metres/second

    Time = 2 hours 20 minutes

    Formula Used:

    Distance = Speed × Time

    Solution:

    Convert the time into seconds.

    1 hour = 60 minutes = 3600 seconds

    2 hours = 2 × 3600 = 7200 seconds

    20 minutes = 20 × 60 = 1200 seconds

    So, total time in seconds = 7200 + 1200 = 8400 seconds

    Distance = 20 × 8400 = 168,000 metres

    Distance in kilometres=168,0001000=168 kilometres\text{Distance in kilometres} = \frac{168,000}{1000} = 168 \, \text{kilometres}

    The car travels 168 kilometres in 2 hours and 20 minutes.
